H-Files or Hedstrom Files, are used in a reciprocating movement to file and shape the root canal.

These special 40 mm H-files are the preferred length by many equine dentists as they have increased length compared to 31 mm files but are still short enough to allow access at the back of the mouth.

Files and Reamers are intended to be single use and the cost factored in to each procedure.

Sterilization

Files must be sterilized before use. ANSI/ADA Specification 28 recommends:

• Scrub the instruments with soap and warm water
• Rinse thoroughly with distilled or deionized water
• Allow to air dry
• Place instruments, unwrapped, in the autoclave tray
• Use fresh distilled or deionized water
• Steam Autoclave at 136°C (+/-2°C) for 20 minutes
• Recommended file disposal: Place used files in Biohazard Sharps container
